In today’s environment of escalating costs in the provision of health services, constrictions on health budgets, and shortages in trained specialist staff, telehealth services are seen by many as a viable alternative to traditional face-to-face medical practice. However, with the use of technology to provide health care services where the patient can be many miles removed from the health care provider, there is also a need to produce standards and guidelines to regulate the provision of the service and to protect the people involved.
